Data Communications - Smallest RFID Tag Developed in Japan
June 03, 2005
YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory has claimed to have developed the world's smallest active RFID tag, dubbed "Dice". Measuring 15mm cubed, the tag includes a battery that can be used for about two years and three months -- assuming communication every five minutes -- and can perform two-way communications within a range of 10 meters under optimal conditions. The tag uses the 315MHz band, supports DES (Data Encryption Standard) algorithms, and can integrate a sensor. Developers say that pilot testing will be completed during 2005.
